Application of Non-woven Waterproof Agents in medical materials

The progress of modern medical and health care has greatly promoted the development of medical protective materials. Medical protective materials not only have strict requirements for protective barrier properties, but also put forward increasingly higher requirements for their comfort, hygiene and biological properties.Waterproof and breathable fabrics have a wide range of applications in the field of medical materials due to their distinctive characteristics.

Among them,Leman Polymer Technology Co.,Ltd.’s C6 non-woven finishing agent EE-6824 is a fluorocarbon polymer emulsion based on C6 structure, which is a professional multi-functional finishing agent for non-woven fabrics. It can adapt to the processing and baking environment of 110°C~130°C,with a solid content of 30%. It has excellent resistance to hydrostatic pressure, alcohol resistance and blood resistance.

一、Protective clothing in medical equipment

Medical protective clothing is required to have excellent barrier properties against contaminated liquids (blood, body fluids contaminated by viruses and bacteria, etc.) and microbial aerosol barrier properties,as well as good disinfection resistance, physical and mechanical properties, and wearing comfort properties. Therefore,it is necessary to use microporous waterproof and breathable materials and dense hydrophilic waterproof and breathable materials.PTFE microporous membrane material has excellent chemical resistance, low surface energy, flame retardant, and excellent waterproof and moisture permeability. However, due to the small size of the virus, for example, the diameter of the coronavirus is 0.08-0.2 μm,the pore size of the polytetrafluoroethylene membrane is still larger than the size of the virus, which may cause virus penetration. At the same time, due to its lipophilicity, the performance of the polytetrafluoroethylene membrane decreases greatly during washing and use, which will also affect its isolation performance. Therefore, there are still problems with ordinary polytetrafluoroethylene microporous membranes as barriers for durable medical protective clothing.

In order to achieve the unity of anti-viral penetration and moisture permeability, the symmetry of the micropores of polytetrafluoroethylene is improved, and the polytetrafluoroethylene composite membrane is made by stretching it together with the sealing material to form a film.Protective clothing using this composite film can effectively inhibit the entry of toxic liquids and microbial aerosols, and at the same time allow the sweat produced by the human body to be emitted in the form of water vapor, thus greatly improving the human body’s comfort and long-lasting working ability.

First, the base fabric is subjected to a flame-retardant finishing, and then the base fabric is combined with a flame-retardant and antibacterial polyurethane film through transfer coating. Finally, the composite fabric is subjected to a water-repellent finishing process to produce a process that is anti-blood penetration, antibacterial, and flame retardant, waterproof, breathable and other new medical protective clothing materials with multiple functions.

二、Other medical materials

Waterproof and moisture-permeable films are also widely used in medical materials such as surgical towels, sterilizing instrument wrapping materials, and wound dressings. The surgical drape is a sterile film medical material with a hole in the center. It is pasted on the skin at the incision site to prevent blood and body fluids from flowing back from the skin around the wound back during surgery and causing infection.Surgical towels made of materials with high moisture permeability can prevent the membrane from detaching from the skin due to moisture accumulation in the adhesive area.

Sterilization wrapping cloth is a material used to wrap scalpels, scissors, forceps and other medical instruments for disinfection at high temperatures. It must not only have protective properties to prevent dust and microorganisms from penetrating into the sterilization bag,but must also have enough micropores to allow disinfectants to penetrate Sterilize the instruments in the sterilization bag. There is a new sandwich type sterilization wrapping material. The upper and lower layers are heat-resistant polyester and polypropylene non-woven fabrics, and the middle layer is a polytetrafluoroethylene microporous film.

Highly moisture-permeable films are also used as dressings for intravenous injection sites, which can reduce the risk of bacterial infection at the wound site.Since body fluids are volatilized, the site that has been attached to the dressing for a long time will not be soaked by body fluids, and will not cause external wounds,Bacterial proliferation in surgical wounds and ulcerated wounds leads to infection.

Moisture-permeable polyurethane films are widely used in dressings.By adjusting the hydrophilic and hydrophobic components of the polyurethane polymer,a semipermeable membrane material can be produced that can allow a large amount of water vapor and oxygen to pass through, while preventing moisture and bacteria from entering. The film is particularly useful as a protective film on the outer layer of a composite dressing,or directly on low-exudation wounds such as epidermalized wounds. They have strong breathability, with a moisture permeability of 3000g/(m2·24h);they are soft, comfortable, and transparent in structure, allowing patients and medical staff to easily observe the progress of the wound.

Moisture-permeable polyurethane films are widely used in dressings.By adjusting the hydrophilic and insulating components in the polyurethane polymer,a semipermeable film material can be produced that can transmit a large amount of water vapor and oxygen while preventing moisture and bacteria from entering. The film is particularly suitable as a protective film on the outer layer of a composite material, or directly on low-exudation wounds such as wound wounds. They have ultimate film properties and a moisture permeability of 3000g/(m2·24h);they are soft, comfortable, and transparent in structure, allowing the patient and ink to easily observe the progress of the wound.

When in contact with a relatively dry wound, the structure of the foam prevents excessive evaporation of moisture from the wound to maintain a moist environment.Because the polyurethane film is light in weight and has good air permeability,it can also be combined with other highly hygroscopic materials to form a composite dressing to play the role of a protective film.
