Reasons why waterproofing agents cause roller sticking and how to improve it

The problem of roller sticking is encountered during the fabric waterproofing process:

 

1. Differences in stability of waterproofing agents
Under the same process conditions,using different waterproofing agents/three-proof finishing agents,the probability of roller sticking is very different. Some low-quality waterproof and oil-repellent agents on the market add fillers to meet the solid mass fraction requirements, resulting in poor product stability.

2. Differences in finishing equipment
For example, if a relatively rough roller is used to pad the waterproofing agent/three-proof finishing agent working fluid, the roller surface is easily contaminated by the precipitates in the working fluid; at the same time, as the color of the fabric is different, the color of the stain will also be different. , such as the backward steam drying drum, the probability of roller sticking will increase significantly.

3. Temperature
The waterproofing agent is an emulsion. Especially in summer, when the water temperature is high, the ambient temperature is high, and the temperature of the fabric being processed is also high, which continuously brings heat into the working fluid and causes the temperature of the working fluid to rise. At this time, the stability of the emulsion is reduced, and the fluororesin is relatively easy to precipitate (demulsification).

4. pH
When the pH is higher than 7 and is alkaline, the stability of the waterproof working fluid will decrease, and it will also easily break out of the emulsion and precipitate, causing it to stick to the roller.

5. Mixing of dyes and additives
If the processed fabric is not cleaned, the remaining dyes (mostly anions) will fall off into the working fluid and combine with weak cations to cause instability in the working fluid.

6. Water quality
It’s just that the filtered river water contains suspended solids or other substances depending on the season, and it is easy to combine or flocculate when encountering weak cations.

7. Continuous extrusion by rollers and mechanical shearing
If the stability of the working fluid decreases when the problem (5) above exists, it will be easier to break the emulsion and stick to the stick during continuous rolling mill extrusion.

8. Use additives in the same bath
Pay attention to the ionic nature of the added additives and whether the pH is opposite (for example, do not mix anionic acrylic resin and cationic resin). Melamine resin can be mixed with water, but be careful not to use it for a long time after preparation, because melamine resin will condense itself in the acidic waterproof working fluid, especially at high temperatures, which is one of the factors that causes roller sticking.

4.Avoid using recycled water and river water for processing.

5.Improved anti-stick roller.

6.Add acid to adjust working fluid.

7.Processed fabrics should be thoroughly washed and contain almost no alkali, dyes or auxiliaries.

8.Choose additives that improve the stability of the working fluid against heat and mechanical shear.
